Use central heating to save - 04/09/2007

An energy-efficiency report includes tips on saving money on your energy bills this winter.

The October issue of Consumer Reports recommends that customers can save money by using their thermostats and sealing up cracks and leaks.

By turning your thermostat down when the house is empty or when people are asleep you reduce the temperature of your house and save money.

Allowing your central heating system to function efficiently is also a great way to save, according to the report, and fixing any cracks in the duct system will allow it to do so.

But energyhelpline.com’s Mark Todd claims that the single biggest saving consumers can make on their winter fuel bills is to make sure they’re on the cheapest available tariffs.

Todd noted that many people could be saving as much as £269 a year on their fuel bills by switching to a cheaper provider.

Insulating hot pipes, turning off lights, turning of televisions are all ways to reduce your energy bills, and save the environment.
