To compare broadband packages and find your best deal
Fast broadband leads to rise of techno-commuters - 04/09/2007
Fast broadband connections are allowing more homeworkers to hold down their city jobs.
Better affordability in the broadband market is allowing more people to have the option of working from home.
According to the National Office of Statistics homeworkers make up about 11 per cent of the workforce.
Work Wise UK told the Financial Times that this could grow to 50 per cent of the workforce in just five years.
The UK is the world's leader in affordable broadband connections, 99.6 per cent of the country have access to a broadband connection.
According to Work Wise working from home could improve productivity and reduce traffic congestion.
Aamir Baloch of firsthelpline.com welcomed the possibilities for more Britons to work from home via their broadband connection.
But he believes that Britain is lagging behind Europe when it comes to the provision of superfast broadband.
"The future will see many more people choosing to work from home where possible, and ISPs will have to improve their services to accommodate it," he said.
