Broadband speed test results revealed - 09/02/2009

The speeds offered by a leading UK broadband provider fell during the last month, the latest research has found.

In news which may interest those considering switching their internet provider, rates for O2/Be dropped from 5.9 mbps to 5.3mbps, according to a study by broadband.co.uk.

Edd Dawson, speaking on behalf of the researcher, commented that despite the falls, this speed is "still impressive".

He added: "They look to be victims of their own success after rapid expansion in their user base over the past year."

Mr Dawson went on to say O2/Be has admitted it has had problems regarding this issue recently and is investing money into upgrading parts of its network, to allow consumers to enjoy faster internet access.

The study found Virgin is the speediest provider, making it five months in a row the firm has topped the monthly research table.

Elsewhere, only a quarter of Britons have a high level of trust in the company which delivers their broadband access, according to work by ISPreview.co.uk.
