Homeowners wanting to switch energy could apply for efficiency makeover - 03/08/2009
People looking to
switch gas
and electricity suppliers could consider lobbying to be part of a domestic efficiency makeover paid for through a £350 million scheme.
The Community Energy Saving Programme will install a full range of energy-efficient measures in 90,000 homes throughout 100 areas around the UK from 900 that have been identified as being deprived, reports the Times.
Community groups can lobby their local authority to be included in the scheme that could save £330 a year for each home that has the measures installed.
Frances Williamson, of the Energy Retail Association, told the paper: "If you live in one of the 900 eligible areas you need to get local community groups on board and contact your local authority, which should then lobby
energy suppliers
on your behalf."
Controversially, the scheme could be paid for by increasing individual household energy bills by £3 a year.
The government has pledged to insulate every UK home within the next few years.
