To compare energy prices and start saving
Lower bills from energy suppliers is prime motivation for cutting carbon footprint - 09/02/2010
Most consumers are motivated to reduce their domestic carbon footprint by lower bills from their
energy suppliers
, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
The environmental organisation said more than three-quarters of people would be inspired to reduce their carbon output in the home if they could save money by doing so.
Dr Paula Owen, head of knowledge services at the Energy Saving Trust, said making small lifestyle adjustments can also help reduce business gas and electricity bills and carbon.
"The forthcoming roll-out of smart meters with visual displays offers us the chance to begin a more interactive and informed approach to the energy we use," she said.
Dr Owen also pointed out that the clean energy cashback scheme announced this month has a huge potential to get people generating their own
cheap energy
, which could help them make significant savings.
Alistair Buchanan, chief executive of
Ofgem
, recently said in an exclusive interview with the BBC that energy bills in the UK are set to rise by 20 per cent over the next ten years.
