Growing number of restaurants focus on sustainability and cheap energy - 13/05/2010

The number of restaurants interested in promoting sustainable cheap energy is on the rise, an expert has suggested.

According to Simon Happner, managing director of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, a growing number of restaurants are now beginning to shift their focus on eco-friendly issues due to an increased customer demand.

He pointed out that the election of the first ever Green Party MP in Brighton suggests a growing interest and wider awareness of sustainability and green issues.

Businesses now seem to be taking advantage of this growing interest in sustainable energy issues by adopted a wide ranging environmentally friendly measure.

Mr Happner welcomed this development and said the changes can be viewed as positive steps to a more sustainable industry.

A recent report from local authorities in Cornwall found that the county is one of the best places in Britain for recycling and cheap energy. The study, which was reported in the Western Morning News, ranked the Cornwall 15th out of 81 authorities, with a recycling rate of 36.23 per cent.
