Britain to work with India on renewable cheap energy drives - 04/08/2010

Britain plans to work with India on a series of sustainable cheap energy drives, it has emerged.

During a visit to the Asian country, climate change minister Greg Barker said the new Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government is determined to bring a "fresh approach to the climate debate" and the UK's partnership with India will allow this goal to be realised.

This week, Mr Barker has been in India with prime minister David Cameron, where he has been promoting the green energy agenda with Indian counterparts.

"It's now time to stop preaching, start listening and get on with practical solutions which will tackle both poverty and climate change and create real green business opportunities," he commented.

Both countries agreed to collaborate to find ways to help the Indian economy grow in a more energy efficient way by reducing emissions and helping firms lower their business energy use.

For its part, India has pledged to the emissions intensity of its economy by between 20 per cent and 25 per cent by 2020.
