Broadband comparison customers may already know of the benefits of the technology, but others should be informed about the advantages of broadband.

This is according to Edd Dawson, an industry expert, who said: "It has become more prevalent but it is one of those things where, until it is demonstrated to people, and they can see the benefits clearly, then they are not necessarily going to realise what a difference it can make."

He noted that it has been underestimated "by some people", but explained that "the more that can be done to show people the benefits, the more likely people are to want to take up the services".

Mr Dawson's comments follow a report from ABI Research indicating that the number of mobile broadband subscriptions are on the increase and could hit the one billion mark this year.

By 2016, a further 28 per cent growth, or 6.6 billion wireless subscriptions, are expected, with twice the current proportion of users becoming mobile broadband-enabled.
