Checking heating systems 'could save money' - 04/11/2011
People looking to get
cheap gas
deals and
compare heat cover
options have been advised that simple checks could save them money in the long term.
Anna-Marie DeSouza, editor of Build It magazine, noted that having a boiler serviced now will be far cheaper than having a system replaced should it fail in the middle of winter, which could leave people without warmth even if they are protected by an insurance policy.
She added a few simple home checks, such as examining whether radiators are getting hot all over or just at the top or bottom, can give an indication as to the general health of their system.
"Most competent DIYers will be able to bleed radiators and change the odd value, but for anything more serious, a professional heating engineer should be called in," Ms DeSouza said.
Her comments come shortly after a report by Dyno warned a poorly maintained central heating system could lead to people spending more than necessary on their gas bills.
