E.ON apologises after billing error - 23/04/2012

Business energy provider E.ON has apologised to a charity after an error resulted in it being charged nearly £78,000 for gas.

The BBC reports the Realitas Community Arts Centre was issued with a demand for £77,815.85 earlier this month, which E.ON blamed on "human error".

Neil McGregor-Paterson, who runs the charity, explained the bill had arrived after he had queried an earlier incorrect charge, which was £876.43, compared with his normal monthly spend of £30.

He said: "It's about time the electricity suppliers made reading their bills easier and with all their resources, get their readings right."

A spokesman for E.ON said the company had worked straight away to resolve the issue and recommended anyone who has concerns over their gas and electricity bills contact the supplier directly so they can help.

The news comes shortly after E.ON highlighted changes made as part of its Reset Review that should improve the way the firm resolves complaints.

Mr McGregor-Paterson has received an apology from E.ON and a revised bill for £27.21, which the customer said "was more like it".
