To compare prices on your utility bills and start saving
Many people 'missing out' on full internet speeds - 22/06/2012
Many people looking to get fast
cheap broadband
may not be getting their full potential speed due to poor home networks.
This is according to internet service provider TalkTalk, which claimed more than half a million UK households are getting speeds up to 4Mbps slower than they could be due to poor wiring and badly-configured routers.
A survey by the firm found wiring issues are a problem for 31 per cent of homes, while 17 per cent do not have their phone socket set up properly and one-fifth have router issues.
TalkTalk Bright Sparks engineer Dan Downham explained: "A bit of basic home maintenance and some re-jigging of the wiring in the living room could speed up internet connections no end."
He explained people should consider their
broadband
as a commodity similar to water and electricity that can be wasted if people are not careful.
Last month, regulator
Ofcom
called on broadband providers to be more open about the speeds customers can expect to receive when making sales over the phone.
